On the Tenth Day of Letter Writing…
Anyone else find themselves going into a little bit of hibernation mode as soon as the holidays hit?
It’s the end of the year. Everyone’s tired. And amidst all of the festivities and invites, it can be all-too tempting to decide that it’s officially time to disappear until the new year.
Don’t get us wrong - we’re big fans of cozying up with a Christmas movie and taking a break from the craziness of life. But we also want to give you a gentle nudge to remember: the people around you need you, too.
In a season that can feel extra-lonely, how can you show up for the people in your life and remind them that they aren’t in it alone? How can you take the hope that you’ve been scripting into love letters for the past ten days and take it with you into your world?
Maybe it’s picking up the phone and calling that friend who’s been extra quiet lately.
Maybe it’s inviting someone over to decorate cookies, or to go look at Christmas lights.
Maybe it’s dropping a meal off for a friend who’s been going through a lot.
Maybe it’s as simple as seeing someone who’s struggling and inviting them to run errands with you.
We need each other. That’s the pure, simple truth of it. We aren’t meant to do life alone - and the holidays remind us of that more than ever.
Keep making the world around you lighter, MLL fam. It matters. 🖤
ANNA
Anna is an amazing human being who lost her husband in July to a brain tumour at the age of 46. She is the mum of two brilliant boys (ages 14 and 11) and two black cats, Albie and Mario. She cared for her husband while juggling work, family, and coming to terms with his diagnosis. While Anna always stays positive, this will be her first Christmas without her husband, a season that will surely be difficult to navigate. Her friend writes, “I’d love for her to receive some lovely positive messages. She’s not one to have sympathy, but I think some fun post from people would really lift her spirits at Christmas.”
Despite her grief, Anna is keeping his memory alive and making sure her boys create meaningful experiences and lasting memories. We have a real chance to contribute to those memories by shocking Anna and her sons with hundreds of letters from people around the globe showing up to say, “We love you. We’re with you. We care.”
